Bearing duty in Belt Conveyors
Conveyor bearings here have to survive contamination, shock load and long running hours. Most of their life depends on the seal arrangement, load rating and housing fit you choose.
Belt conveyors use pillow block and flanged units on pulley and idler shafts, plus spherical roller bearings at the heavy-load positions. Units often run 24/7 under heavy load with abrasive dust, spillage and moisture, so a poorly chosen seal or an undersized series can lead to repeated failures at the same position. Buyers mostly care about seal performance, load rating and how long a unit runs between maintenance stops.
- On dusty or wet conveyor lines, choose triple-lip or labyrinth-sealed units so fines and slurry stay out of the raceway.
- When one bearing position keeps failing, check the radial load and shaft speed before choosing between a better seal and a heavier series.
- Match the housing bolt spacing and shaft height to the existing frame so replacement units bolt straight on.
- For conveyors in continuous 24/7 service, size bearings for rated life at actual belt tension, not just shaft diameter.
